The excitement of watercolor painting didn’t impact Sue until after she retired from teaching in 2001. She always loved to be creative, but it wasn’t until she experienced the magic of water and paint mixing on wet paper that she fell in love with the process. It became her favorite medium that allows her to capture the spirit and soul of the many wonderful subjects found in Southern Maryland wher e she grew up on weekends and now resides.
Recently she has also discovered pastels and loves their rich colors. She was attracted to the way they blend and layer to capture the sunlight dancing on the water or the deep mystery of the shadows on the shoreline.
The local barns, waterfowl, seascapes, and lighthouses all tell a story of the rich history located here in the Chesapeake Bay area and the mediums of watercolor and pastels have been methods for Sue to portray their story. Each picture she creates tells a story.
She has exhibited her work in many juried shows in the area, was co-owner of Creek Side Gallery in Leonardtown for 10 years, has been a member of the Color and Light Society, the Arts Council and the Calvert Artist Guild, and was President of the Color & Light Society for 3 years.
Sue’s work can be seen at the CalvArt Gallery in Prince Frederick and she can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
