Nancy Deane Bateman

A lifelong love of the natural world is depicted in Nancy’s artwork. Her fiber art and ceramics reflect the changing interplay of light upon water and clouds. Luminosity and richness of texture speak of the sparkling Chesapeake Bay and its bucolic countryside.

Nancy’s needlefelted landscapes resemble Impressionist paintings and impart both a sense of fond nostalgia and an element of mystery. Her pottery is primarily functional kitchenware and she strives to create pots that are comfortable in the hand as well as pleasing to the eye.

When not in the studio, Nancy prefers to be in her sea kayak or hiking in the woods.

A member of the Calvert Artists Guild, her work is exhibited in Southern Maryland at CalvArt Gallery and Friday’s Creek Winery. Nancy received her training in ceramics in her hometown of Alexandria, Virginia at the Art League School of the Torpedo Factory where she was also a member of the kiln team.
