Carol Wade

Carol’s passion for art began as a small child with encouragement from her grandmother who was also an artist. Throughout grade school, she excelled in several arts enrichment drawing courses at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. Following high school, she pursued her passion for art and received her Bachelor’s of Art degree from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, where she majored in graphic design and minored in painting. Developing her professional skill set through experiences with printing companies, studios, and ad agencies throughout the DC Metropolitan area, her work included logo design, graphic packages, publication and signage design, displays, and hand drawn illustrations as well as digital illustration.

The creative expression of Carol’s paintings and mixed media pieces relate to her work as a professional graphic designer, with a consistent focus on composition, color, and appealing concepts. Carol primarily uses acrylic paints for her works though has also enjoyed experimenting with mixed media as well. The core of her passion has always been in the Fine Arts, providing a platform to express herself as an artist without boundaries, driving rewarding experimentation, evolution and creativity.

Carol Wade served as a Graphic Designer at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) in La Plata, Maryland 30 years. While employed at CSM, Carol has received numerous local and national awards for her work. Her most enjoyable design projects while at CSM were posters showcasing the college’s theater productions, allowing her the greatest latitude in experimenting with different styles of illustration and custom typography.

Since retiring a few years ago from the college, Carol has devoted more time into her painting career, and has been a member of ArtWorks@7th Gallery in North Beach Maryland. She is also a member of the Calvert Artists Guild in which she has received four awards for her paintings. In September of 2013, she was juried in and participated in the Solomon’s Plein Air Festival. Her work can also be seen at Friday’s Creek Winery, The Furniture Gallery and the Dreamweaver Cafe in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
